Ashbury Heights Lifestyle Village
The Ashbury Heights Lifestyle Village is a landmark 17.5-hectare greenfields project in Maunu, Whangarei, commissioned by Qestral Corporation Ltd. This project marks Qestral's first development in the North Island, combining independent living with hospital-level care and high-end amenities.
The site presented several topographical challenges, including gradients, slopes, and a substantial basalt rock formation beneath the surface. Blasting and dynamite were required to prepare the land, and the rocks were repurposed on-site for retaining walls. Extensive civil engineering was also necessary to install services across the greenfields site.
Halfway through the project, additional land was secured, requiring a redesign of the master plan, services, and building locations to accommodate the expanded footprint. Retaining the site's stone heritage walls was a crucial part of the Resource Consent (RC) requirements.
Once completed, the village will offer an impressive range of facilities for its residents, including:
• 250 houses
• 61 care beds
• A 20-bed dementia facility
• A lodge featuring 46 apartments and amenities such as a movie theatre, bar, restaurant, café, heated pool, gym, hair salon, medical centre, and library
• A maintenance shed
• The Care Centre is designed to provide rest home and hospital-level care in spacious, comfortable rooms, reflecting the development's commitment to the wellbeing of its future residents.
